Daft me thought this was a contemporary western (that's what I get for just seeing the Authors name and going "buy, buy, buy"! However I really enjoyed this PNR, Extrasensory spin on the wild, wild West!

Sam is the oldest son of a cattle baron and founder of the local town. He follows the rules so when a certain flame haired bank thief manages to get him to twist the rules, he's not quite sure what has come over him.

Scarlet Morning Star was adopted by a Native American when her family and town were decimated by a fever. She survived but now has a certain fiery talent to go with her flaming tresses! Left behind when her brothers robbed the bank of Dorado, she finds herself not too distressed at being held captive by the handsome Sam. His family is treating her like a guest and he makes her very innocent self have some very racy thoughts!

Scarlet and her brothers all have an extra special talent, such as dream walking, shape shifting or healing. But there seems to be a little bit of something extra going on with Sam's youngest brother too! Loved the characters and I cannot wait to get my hands on more in this series!

Marshal of Hel Dorado Fevered Hearts #1 edition by Heather Long Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

But if you are looking for and like paranormal this book might be ok. However, I was looking for a western and wound up with a paranormal which was not at all clear from the book description. I admit I did not read the sample and should have as it is clear there it is paranormal. Good thing it was free. I couldn’t finish this. I might have read it anyway if the premise wasn’t so hokey, but this was not well executed. There are better books by this author. I liked her series that features Marines.
Start of an intriguing paranormal western series. A patchwork family kind of caught robbing a bank, the Marshal lusting over & going to extremes to protect his fiery prisoner.
The family has extraordinary gifts and the Marshal has much to prove before they'll relinquish their sister.
Looking forward to the next adventure.
This was a pretty decent romantic western with a strong dose of paranormal thrown in to keep it suspenseful. Long really knows how to build characters and bring them to life. You can feel the emotion jumping off the page. Scenes are painted in such vivid colors you can feel the heat prickling your skin. I look forward to reading more by this author. Job well done!
First, let me say that I don't, as a general rule, read westerns. Second, given the first statement, I can't possible express how much I love this series. Yes, it's a series. I read the first four books in two weeks. This one I read in one sitting.

Even though I had several unread books in my kindle, I was browsing. Paranormal *western* romance? I was intrigued and finally bought it. I tend to go for paranormal romance. Several friends recommended Ms. Long's work to me, and one night I was in the mood to try something different. I am so glad I did.

I love this series SO much. I know, I already said that. Just wanted to make sure it was out there.

Sam...he's proper, polite, and completely smitten with Scarlett. Scarlett has several VERY protective brothers. The fight between Sam and Cody is one of my favorite parts. The idea of people running around in the Old West with special abilities reminiscent of X-Men called to the nerd in me, and I was totally hooked just a few pages in.

Buy this book. Just be prepared to buy them all in another day or two. )
This is not my style of book at all. I'm not even sure why I downloaded it but I am glad I did. Very interesting, well written story. I don't lean toward the paranormal stuff so this was a surprise. The story was so well written that I couldn't put it aside even if it wasn't my thing. I might follow the whole series if it stays this good. I will certainly check out this author.
Sam the Marshall of a small town in Texas heard rumors that bank robbers were towns of their gold. While on lookout he sees a flash of light within the only bank in town and goes to investigates. He captures Scarlett a female who was left behind by her brothers and places her in jail. While in jail Ryder and his gang threatens her life so Sam takes her to his family ranch several hours away for safety. Sam is drawn to Scarlett but she has another secret she is a fire starter that is produced from her body. and she is from a family of abnormal castoffs from the fever that ravished the inhabitants of their towns.
Sounded amazing and was a good opener to a supernatural series set in the wild west but I found myself more captivated by the many other secondary characters than the actual main couple.

It felt way too insta-love on the h’s part and the H was a bit too bland. The whole unrequited love thing going on between Scarlett and Scarlett’s “brother” and his wolf was both messed up (they grew up as siblings and his inner wolf sees her as their mate) and sad - since she isn't for him. There was more interaction between Scarlett and her brother than there was with her and the H. I'm not interested in reading the next one since it's about Scarlett's brother and his "real" mate. Which is a trope I don't like since the h will be second choice for her H.

The super powers and the mysterious fever were pretty cool but not enough to hook me.

This one is also 100% safe. There is some OM drama but its minor.
