This little French book has a powerful tale. It is a story that you read once and come away feeling that you have read something of substance. It is a magical little book that gives the reader the power to discover more upon each read. The title does not translate well as it is not a story of THE SECRET but rather a story of a secret. A tiny difference, and there are a lot of little secrets in this book. I would not buy this addition as the footnotes are in German and the publisher does makes no mention of this in the sales tag. But do seek out the French version with English footnotes as it is well worth the read.
A really sad book about France during the Nazi regime. A terrible time and still a shame for the country that gave birth to the famous "Liberté, Égalité et Fraternité". The story remembers, through the eyes of a jewish couple and their child, how French officials decided to also send children to concentration camps in order not to ‘separate families’... incredibly terrifying yet real. And the worst part is that German officials apparently didn’t require it, it was an initiative of the Vichy regime. Worth reading as a testimony of one of France's darkest times.
