200 Very Short Stories Helen KeelingMarston 9781780915494 Books

In an attempt to lessen the heartaches of not having enough time to properly finish a book, the author created a clever way around it; instead of one long book that you have to try and remember your place in, how about many teeny-tiny stories that make you feel like you’re reading a full-length novel, without the commitment and responsibility.

…I feel like I just wrote a sales pitch.

A lot of these stories have the same formula to them—lots of dialogue, some vague happenings, and then a punchline (twist). Most of these were meant to be silly, lighthearted tales. There’s a few, more serious ones sprinkled in, so don’t just think it’s all fun and games. They were simple compositions designed to get it all out and move along.

Definitely a book designed to be read in multiple sittings. The formula eventually grew repetitive. Quite a bit of creativity went into the stories, and it certainly shows.

Two Hundred Very Short Stories - Helen's first book - features an eclectic mix of short stories and flash fiction: flash fiction being works of extreme brevity. 200 Very Short Stories Helen KeelingMarston 9781780915494 Books Reviews

The stories are very short indeed, but they are great and you can find yourself - in the blink of an eye - in a different world the author is able to guide you in. It's funny, it's creative. I really liked it! A. Gavazzoni - Author. I've received a copy of this book for and honest review

This is my review of Two Hundred Very Short Stories.

It’s a collection of very short stories.
I really liked a lot of them and wished some of them had been made into books.
I really enjoyed reading them, and I think others will too.
I give the stories 5 stars!
200 Very Short Stories was a delight to read. It has an endearing blend of fact and fiction interwoven through its diverse stories covering a wide range of life situations. From detailing a plausible back story leading up to a historical event, to plotting out alternative story lines were pivotal historical events to not have happened, to casting intriguing views of life in the future, Helen Keeling-Marston does a phenomenal job of taking her readers on a memorable journey through time, space, and perspective. I particularly enjoyed the story series, especially the ones featuring Patrick and Ted and Chai and his grandfather, that were interspersed with the other stories. You never knew when the next one would show up, which gave a pleasant feeling of anticipation as you read from story to story. Then there were the stories that you just didn’t get somehow. And the ones that subtly taught you interesting facts, touching lessons, and charming words from across the pond. All in all, 200 Very Short Stories was a satisfying and edifying, about 25-stories-a-day read for me, and I highly recommend this book.
